Cova POS System Review 2027: Dispensary Pricing and Verdict

How we make money: CanComCo earns a commission from some POS and payments vendors when a business we refer signs up. Commission never changes a rating or a rate we publish.

Cova POS System at a Glance

Starting price $349/month on Boutique with Cova Pay, $389 without. Powerhouse $499 with Cova Pay, $599 without. Enterprise is custom-quoted. Built-in eCommerce is a separate $199, shown promoted to $149, on Boutique and Powerhouse.
Payment processing fee None published. Cova names no card rate for Cova Pay or any other processor, even though the plan price depends on using it.
Contract length Not published. No minimum term, notice period or cancellation policy appears on the US pricing page.
Free trial or free plan Neither. Capterra records "Free version not included" and "Free trial not available." Cova offers a free consultation and demo.
POS workstations Boutique: up to 2. Powerhouse: unlimited. Enterprise: included.
Countries available United States and Canada, on separate pricing pages. Availability is driven by state and provincial licensing, so the traceability systems matter more than the country list. METRC and Biotrack are the two Cova names.
Best for A licensed cannabis dispensary of one or two tills that needs METRC or Biotrack integration without an enterprise upgrade.
Not for Any non-cannabis business, and any dispensary that wants to pick its own payment processor.
Standout feature Compliance integration in the base plan rather than behind an enterprise tier.
Biggest weakness The rating rests on one source. G2 carries 33 reviews, Capterra carries a single review, and no Trustpilot page exists.

Cova POS Pricing: What You'll Actually Pay

Cova prices by plan, not by hardware, and the headline number is not what a working dispensary pays. Two things sit on top: built-in eCommerce as a paid add-on, and payment processing at a rate Cova does not publish.

What the feature matrix actually marks

Cova's comparison table uses three markers: a check, a cross, and a green dollar sign. Cova publishes no legend for the dollar sign, and the natural reading is an additional cost.

Real monthly cost

REAL MONTHLY COST

A single-site dispensary on Boutique with Cova Pay, wanting an online menu:

Boutique with Cova Pay: $349.00

Built-in eCommerce at the promoted price: $149.00

Known total: $498.00 a month, or $5,976.00 a year, before any card processing.

Card processing cannot be added to that figure, because Cova publishes no rate. Treat $498.00 as a floor and not a quote.

Declining Cova Pay on the same setup: $389.00 + $149.00 = $538.00 a month, $40.00 more.

The same dispensary on Powerhouse with eCommerce: $499.00 + $149.00 = $648.00 a month, plus an unpublished fee for API access.

What the Cova Pay discount is actually worth. On Boutique the discount is $40.00 a month, or $480.00 a year. On Powerhouse it is $100.00 a month, or $1,200.00 a year. On $500,000 of annual card volume, $480 is 0.10 percentage points of rate, because $480 divided by $500,000 = 0.096%, and $1,200 is 0.24 points, because $1,200 divided by $500,000 = 0.24%. If Cova Pay's rate sits more than that above what another processor would quote you, taking the discount loses money. Since Cova publishes no rate, you cannot run that check without asking for one.

Cova POS Features: What Works and What Doesn't

Written from Cova's published pages and from customer reviews on G2 and Capterra. No one at CanComCo has operated this product, so nothing here describes a screen we have used.

Compliance and traceability

This is the reason to buy a vertical POS instead of a general one, and Cova puts it in the entry plan. State-approved METRC and Biotrack integration, plus ID scan and age verification, appear with a check on Boutique, Powerhouse and Enterprise alike. For a dispensary, traceability reporting is not optional, so having it at $349 rather than behind an enterprise tier is the main argument for Cova. Note the wording: Cova states it integrates with state-approved systems. That is an integration claim, not a claim that your store is compliant, and compliance remains yours.

Point of sale and payments

Boutique covers up to 2 POS workstations and Powerhouse goes to unlimited, so the plan choice is driven by register count rather than by features. Cashless ATM for debit, ACH and branded gift cards carry a check on all three plans. Cova's listing describes a "unique offline mode" and the pricing page claims 99.99% uptime with offline mode and unlimited users and transactions. All three are Cova's own copy, and with one published Capterra review there is no independent base to test them against.

Inventory and catalog

Product catalog management, inventory tracking with low-stock alerts, multi-location inventory sync and barcode scanning are confirmed. Product variants are not confirmed in the material we read. Cova also advertises AI-powered reports, which is vendor copy rather than a verified capability.

Customers, menu and eCommerce

Customer profiles and gift cards are confirmed, as are the mobile executive dashboard, advanced retail analytics and a scan-to-view live menu on every plan. Built-in eCommerce is not included on Boutique or Powerhouse: it is a $199 add-on shown promoted to $149. A built-in loyalty program is not confirmed; Cova instead names Alpine IQ among its no-fee integrations.

APIs and integrations

Cova names Leafly, Weedmaps, Carrot, Solink, KayaPush and Alpine IQ as no-fee plug-and-play integrations, and Springbig appears in the site navigation. For a dispensary those menu and loyalty connections are the ones that matter commercially, and getting them without a per-integration fee is a real advantage. Custom integration work is a different story: API access is marked with a cross on Boutique and with a dollar sign on Powerhouse and Enterprise.

What is not confirmed

Split checks, tip management, kitchen display, table management, appointment booking, a built-in loyalty program, employee time tracking and payroll, multi-currency and granular multi-user permissions are absent from the material we read. Unlimited users is confirmed; how finely their permissions can be set is not.

Feature matrix read directly from covasoftware.com/pricing-us in November 2026.

Hardware Options and Setup Experience

Cova prices plans and workstation counts, not hardware. The US pricing page lists no hardware SKU and no hardware price, so a dispensary budgeting a deployment has to get the terminal, scanner, printer and cash drawer costs quoted separately.

Two hardware-dependent features are listed as plan inclusions rather than purchases. ID scan and age verification carries a check on every plan, and so does the kiosk. Neither has a device price attached, so confirm what equipment those require and who supplies it. Whether Cova runs on a third-party tablet was not established on the pages we read, and Cova publishes no setup timeline, so this review gives none.

Customer Support: What to Expect When Things Break

Cova advertises premium support on every plan with the line "Real humans. No chatbots. <30-second wait time," and lists email, call and live chat across all three plans. Powerhouse and Enterprise add a dedicated account manager; Boutique does not get one.

Treat the wait-time claim as a vendor promise, not a measured figure. There is no independent base to test it. Capterra shows a Customer Service score of 5.0, but it comes from a single review, which is not evidence either way. No Trustpilot page exists for covasoftware.com, and channel hours, languages, escalation paths and a status page are not published.

If support quality matters to your decision, and at $349 to $599 a month it should, ask Cova for a reference dispensary on your plan tier and call it.

Cova POS Pros and Cons

Pros

  • Compliance integration is in the base plan. State-approved METRC and Biotrack integration, with ID scan and age verification, carry a check on Boutique at $349, not an enterprise upsell.
  • No-fee integrations with the cannabis ecosystem. Leafly, Weedmaps, Carrot, Solink, KayaPush and Alpine IQ are named as plug-and-play with no fee.
  • Powerhouse removes the register cap. Boutique allows up to 2 POS workstations; Powerhouse is unlimited, for $150 a month more with Cova Pay.
  • Payment features included at entry level. Cashless ATM for debit, ACH and branded gift cards carry a check on every plan, including Boutique.
  • Support advertised on every plan. Email, call and live chat across all three tiers, with a claimed sub-30-second wait.
  • It ranks third of eleven cannabis POS products on G2. 4.6 from 33 reviews, behind Meadow and GrowFlow, ahead of Dutchie, Flowhub, BLAZE and Treez.

Cons

  • The rating rests on one source, and the category scores rest on one review. G2's 4.6 from 33 reviews carries the overall figure almost alone. Capterra contributes a single review, and that same review is the only source for Ease of Use 4.0, Value for Money 4.0, Customer Service 5.0 and Features 5.0.
  • The plan price steers you onto Cova Pay and the cost of that choice is unpublished. Declining it costs $40 a month on Boutique and $100 on Powerhouse, and no Cova Pay rate appears anywhere.
  • API access is not available on Boutique and costs extra above it. A cross on Boutique, a green dollar sign on Powerhouse and Enterprise. Any custom integration work means an upgrade plus an unpublished fee.
  • eCommerce is a separate charge. $199, promoted to $149, on top of Boutique and Powerhouse. A dispensary wanting an online menu is at $498 a month before processing, not $349.
  • No contract term and no cancellation policy published. For a product at $349 to $599 a month, that is a material gap. Get the exit terms in writing.
  • No free plan and no free trial. Capterra records both as unavailable. Your only pre-purchase look is a consultation and demo.

This profile suits a licensed dispensary that wants traceability handled at entry level and will negotiate the Cova Pay rate before signing. It frustrates anyone comparing total cost across vendors, and it rules out every non-cannabis business.

How the 4.3 was calculated: the unweighted mean of the product-specific published scores. G2 4.6 + Capterra 4.0 = 8.6, divided by 2 = 4.3 exactly, with no rounding required at today's figures. Trustpilot is excluded from the mean by our method, and here there is no page to exclude.

Read that method honestly: it gives a single Capterra review the same weight as 33 G2 reviews. G2 is doing almost all the work, and the four category scores above come from one person. Anyone weighing a $349 to $599 a month commitment should read the 33 G2 reviews rather than lean on either headline.

Cova ranks third of eleven. Meadow beats it on both counts, a higher score on nearly three times the reviews.

No recurring themes published. We did not read the 33 individual G2 reviews, and one Capterra review cannot support a claim about what users consistently praise or criticize.

Best Cova POS Alternatives

A warning before the list: cannabis retail is a licensed vertical. Two of the three below are general retail POS products and are not drop-in dispensary replacements. Prices verified November 2026.

  • KORONA POS

Consider this if state traceability is handled elsewhere and you need strong retail inventory at a fraction of the price.

Publishes flat per-terminal pricing at $59, $79 and $99 per terminal per month, far below Cova's $349 floor, with an unlimited free trial, no credit card required, and no forced contracts. KORONA does publish a dispensary POS page, so it claims the vertical. You give up: confirmed traceability integration. Its pricing page names no METRC or Biotrack support, so confirm your state's system before switching.

from $59 per terminal per month

  • Lightspeed Retail

Consider this for inventory-led retail that needs purchasing depth rather than traceability.

Basic $89, Core $149 and Plus $289 a month, with purchase orders, PO sync and landed costs on all three plans, 24/7 phone and chat support on every tier, and a published Lightspeed Payments card-present rate of 1.5%, which is more than Cova publishes. You give up: METRC and Biotrack integration and age verification. The page also notes additional service fees may apply by industry.

    from $89 a month

  • Square POS

Consider this only for non-cannabis retail or an ancillary storefront.

A $0 plan, published card rates and a far larger review base: Capterra scores Square 4.6 from 3,036 reviews against Cova's single Capterra review. You give up: cannabis compliance entirely. Square's own terms restrict cannabis-related sales, so do not treat this as a dispensary option.

Cova POS FAQ

How much does the Cova POS System cost?

Boutique is $349 a month with Cova Pay or $389 without, and covers up to 2 POS workstations. Powerhouse is $499 or $599 and covers unlimited workstations. Enterprise is custom-quoted. Built-in eCommerce is a separate $199, shown promoted to $149.

What does Cova Pay cost per transaction?

Cova publishes no card processing rate anywhere on its US pricing page, for Cova Pay or any other processor, even though the plan price depends on whether you use it. Ask for the rate in writing before you accept the discount.

Is the Cova Pay discount worth taking?

You cannot tell from published information. The discount is $480 a year on Boutique and $1,200 on Powerhouse. On $500,000 of annual card volume that is 0.10 and 0.24 percentage points of rate. If Cova Pay prices above another processor by more than that, the discount costs you money.

Does Cova integrate with METRC and Biotrack?

Cova lists state-approved METRC and Biotrack integration on every plan, including Boutique. That is an integration claim from the vendor. Confirm your own state's traceability system is supported before signing.

Is there a Cova free trial?

No. Capterra records both a free version and a free trial as unavailable, and Cova's pricing page offers only a free consultation and demo.

Does Cova include API access?

Not on Boutique, where the feature matrix shows a cross. On Powerhouse and Enterprise the matrix shows a green dollar sign rather than a check, and Cova publishes no legend for it, so budget for an additional cost and get the fee in writing.

What contract does Cova require?

None is published. No minimum term, notice period or cancellation policy appears on the US pricing page. Ask for all three in writing.

Is Cova available in Canada?

Cova publishes a separate Canadian pricing page alongside the US one. Figures on this page are from the US page in US dollars. Cannabis POS availability depends on provincial licensing and the traceability system in use, so confirm both for your province.

Is the Cova POS System Right for Your Business?

The Cova POS System earns its place on a dispensary shortlist for one reason: it puts the compliance tooling in the cheapest plan. METRC and Biotrack integration, ID scan and age verification, kiosk and a live menu all carry a check at $349 a month, and the no-fee Leafly, Weedmaps and Alpine IQ connections are the ones a dispensary actually uses. On G2 it sits third of eleven cannabis POS products at 4.6 from 33 reviews. If you run one or two tills and need traceability handled without an enterprise upgrade, it is a reasonable buy.

Go in with three numbers in writing. Cova publishes no card rate, so the Cova Pay discount is a bet you cannot price: it is worth 0.10 percentage points on Boutique and 0.24 on Powerhouse at $500,000 of annual volume, and more than that in Cova Pay's margin means you lose. Cova publishes no contract term and no cancellation policy. And API access is a cross on Boutique and a dollar sign above it, so integration work costs more than the plan page suggests. Skip Cova entirely if you are not a dispensary: the compliance tooling is the product, and a general retailer would pay $349 a month for integrations it cannot use.
