A restaurant turns a table every 90 minutes. A cafe turns a line every 90 seconds. Toast's cafe and bakery page names the morning rush as the problem to solve, and the fix is not a faster cashier. It is taking orders in more than one place at once: kiosks, mobile order and pay, and ways past a single register. Four of the eight systems here state a self-order kiosk. Three state direct online or mobile ordering.

Then there is the drink itself. A latte is a size, a milk, a shot count and a syrup, and the barista enters all four while the next customer waits. Hike, Loyverse and SpotOn all list drink modifiers for sizes, milk options and add-ons. That is 3 of 8. Square's coffee shop page, one of the few in this set written for coffee shops by name, does not show modifiers or tipping.

The commission problem is the one that costs real money. Your regulars already know what they want, and every one of them who orders through a third-party app hands a cut of a $6 drink to someone else. Square states online ordering with commission-free pickup and delivery. SpotOn states direct online ordering. Toast states mobile order and pay. Lightspeed goes the other way and sends delivery-app orders into the POS, which solves a different problem.

Tips are the last piece, and they carry paperwork. Toast lists a guest-facing tipping screen, KORONA lists tip management and Global Payments Genius lists tipouts. That is 3 of 8. Toast confirms 4 of our 6 cafe columns, joint highest here, and it is the only one with mobile order and pay. Its cafe and bakery page names the morning rush and answers it with kiosks, mobile order and pay, and ways past a single register. The guest-facing tipping screen is the other piece, and it is the only tipping claim in this set that happens in front of the customer.

The entry price is $0 and the conditions matter. Starter Kit is $0 a month for software with the first terminal subscription included, available to new customers and single locations only. Point of Sale starts at $69 a month, which is $828 a year. If you run two sites, the $0 tier is not yours.

SpotOn also confirms 4 of 6, and its four are the ones a cafe owner feels daily: drink modifiers, a self-order kiosk, direct online ordering and built-in loyalty. The brief's stated reader problem is getting regulars to order direct instead of through commission-charging apps. SpotOn's cafe and bakery page is the most direct answer to that sentence in this set.

Two prices, two different deals. All-In is $0 a station a month, with processing minimums and a 2yr minimum term stated on the page. POS essentials is $55 a station a month, month to month, which is $660 a year a station. Over the same 24 months, essentials costs $1,320 a station against $0 on All-In. The $0 buys a 24-month commitment and a processing minimum you have to hit.

Tips are the gap. SpotOn's page states no tip handling, so if your counter runs on tips, ask how that works before you commit to two years.

Square publishes a coffee shop page, which puts it ahead of most of this set on intent. The page states a self-order kiosk and online ordering with commission-free pickup and delivery, and its positioning names automated marketing and loyalty. Two of our six columns confirmed.

The gaps are documented, not assumed. Square's coffee shop page does not show drink modifiers and does not show tipping. Those are the two things a barista does on every order. Every other cell in this table that is not Confirmed reads Not stated, meaning we did not find it. Square's two read differently because the vendor wrote a page for your business type and those features are not on it.

KORONA confirms 3 of 6 and is the only system here with both a bakery POS page and a coffee shop POS page in this brief. It states a self-order kiosk, built-in loyalty and tip management, plus two claims that fall outside our six columns: bakery product combos with special pricing, and offline orders. If your counter sells a coffee-and-pastry deal and your internet drops in the morning, those are the two to ask about.

Pricing is per terminal per month, which is the number to watch. Core is $59, Retail $79 and Plus $99 per terminal. One terminal on Core is $708 a year. Two terminals on Core is $118 a month, $1,416 a year, and two on Retail is $158 a month, $1,896 a year.

Hike's coffee shop page is built around the drink. It states modifiers for sizes, milk options and add-ons, orders sent to preparation screens, and built-in loyalty. The prep-screen claim is the only one of its kind in this set, and for a cafe with a bar and a bake-off oven it is the thing that stops the barista shouting orders over the grinder.

Two of our six columns confirmed, plus that prep-screen claim which sits outside the table. Pricing is $59 a month billed annually or $69 billed monthly, so $708 a year against $828, a $120 gap. Note that this is general Hike POS pricing, not a coffee shop plan.

The price needs reading twice. You get started for $0, with no subscription, setup, hardware or shipping fees. The fine print states a three-year contract and 4 percent cash discounting required. Three years is 36 months locked. Cash discounting at 4 percent means the card price carries a 4 percent uplift against the cash price, so on a $6.00 latte that is $0.24 and the card customer pays $6.24. On a $3.50 drip it is $0.14.

To size it against your own numbers, take 4 percent of your annual card sales. At 150 tickets a day across 350 days at a $6.00 average, that is $315,000 in card sales and $12,600 at 4 percent.
